How to Handle the Medicare Part B Premium Increase in 2025

Starting January 2025, the standard Medicare Part B premium will increase to $185 per month, up from $174.40. Remember that Medicare Part B premiums are based on income, so your monthly premium could be higher. The Medicare Part B annual deductible will also increase to $257 from $240 in 2024. These extra costs can quickly add up over the year, especially if you are living on a fixed income.

When Will You Start Paying the New Increased Premium?

The new increase will start in January 2025. If you currently get Social Security benefits, the premium amount will usually be taken out of your Social Security check automatically. However, if you don’t receive Social Security benefits yet and pay the Medicare Part B premium each month, make sure to pay the new, higher amount beginning in January.
